Northern Roots Beautiful Oldham Why Not?

Year made: 2024

Designed: Badges

For this project I was already working with Northern Roots as a Community Youth Champion, and they tasked me with making a suitable badge for their big upcoming event which took place May 2024 Beautiful Oldham Why Not? I had very little time to complete this, but I did this whilst still keeping a high attention to detail and excellent communication between the charity and me.

The concept

The concept for this logo was to create a design that was simple in terms of detailing but got across the idea of what this charity is which is about helping the environment, so I portrayed this way of greenery by using leaf shapes in abundance around the outskirts of the badge in order to show how healthy their nature site is.

The reason for going low detail on the leaves was because of how small the badges were making the extra detail I could have added almost invisible and worthless to the general consumer.

Typeface

The typeface I used for the text on the badge is called Little Black Cat bold regular. The reason I used this typeface was because Northern Roots had a poster made for the event by a different designer who used this typeface, and they wanted to ensure all material was uniformed.

From a technical standpoint this typeface uses soft edges which was perfect for what Northern Root's were going for being a family friendly event the soft edges give the vibe of the event being inviting.

Primary Colour Palette

For the primary colour palette, I used multitude of green tones alongside a yellow I decided on the array of green colours as this fit in with the company being about helping the environment and also the colour green is often linked to the emotion of calmness. On the contrary I used the yellow colour as it fit the vibe of when this event would take place (summertime), the colour is also linked to the emotion of happiness, and it stood out amongst the duller greens.
